Dr. Stephen Rose is a labor economist based in Washington, DC, specializing in studying issues related to inequality, education, skills assessment, college admissions, and labor market conditions. He has worked with many large longitudinal and cross-sectional data sets to develop unique approaches to understanding long term income and earnings movements. His Social Stratification in the United States poster is currently in its fifth edition. His other published work includes monographs and papers on career paths and mobility, declining job attachment, the long-term usage of EITC, increased family working time, developing new categories to understand the new service economy, the long-run gender gap, admission practices of selective colleges based on family socioeconomic status and race/ethnicity, adult education, and credit card debt.
He has worked for Education Testing Service (ETS), the Department of Labor (as a senior advisor to Secretary Reich), the National Commission on Employment Policy, the Joint Economic Committee of Congress, the Ways and Means Committee of the Washington State Senate, and private survey research firms.
