Revised Guidelines
1. This is a moderated forum where comments are reviewed before they are displayed. As a result there will usually be a delay before your posts appear on the site. Depending on the time of day when a post is received, this delay may be for several hours.
2. There are two basic rules all comments must follow:
a. We do not publish any comments that insult or belittle other participants in the discussion.
b. We only publish comments that are expressed in a mature and civil tone of voice.
3. From its inception, the EDM comments area has been provided with three categories of participants in mind.
a. People who wish to discuss the ideas Ruy Teixeira and our other authors present in their posts.
b. People who wish to discuss issues relating to the analysis and interpretation of public opinion polls.
c. Democrats who wish to discuss the application of polling data to improving Democratic political strategy.
This site is not intended as a forum for the general discussion of political issues and philosophies. There are many other sites on the web that serve this purpose far better then we can.
4. Most of our readers are committed Democrats, but we are open to thoughtful comments and intelligent debate from non-Democrats as well. We do, however, insist that all comments follow our guidelines.
5. For legal reasons we will not publish comments that either:
a. Make specific statements that, in our opinion, appear potentially defamatory.
b. Incorporate the full text of articles from other sources. For articles, provide a maximum of 3-4 paragraphs and a URL.
6. The following kinds of comments will also not be posted:
a. Essentially identical comments calling attention to new polls.
b. Off-topic material
c. Posts by individuals who have violated our guidelines in the past
7. We do not knowingly exceed the legal fair use of material which is subject to copyright or trademark protection without obtaining authorization from the parties owning the copyright and/or trademark or other statutory or common law protection.
